Education . Compassion . Respect

Courses Offered

"Our learners should respond to requests because they have the skills and the motivation to do so, and not because they're forced to behave in order to escape punishment." Dr. Susan Friedman

*NEW* Junior Handlers Group Class

This course is for kids who would like to take on more of a participation role in their four-legged family member's care. Here we will learn how to build and maintain a safe and respectful relationship betweeen kids and their dogs. Through games, tricks, and basic obedience cues, your child will learn to read dog body language, develop communication skills, focus, and safe consentual handling techniques.

Children 8+ will find this class the most benefitial, though if you have a younger child who would like to participate please don't hesitate to reach out! They need to be able to maintain control of the dog in their care (parental/guardian help is absolutely welcome).

Though there will not be off-leash time in this group, dogs are required to be non-reactive to other dogs/people. If you are unsure if this applies to your dog, please ask! This course would be best suited to puppies/dogs over 4 months of age.

Duration: 4 weekly 1 hour classes
Cost: $150.00
*A parent or guardian must be able to attend classes if handler is under 16 years old*

This can include (but is definitely not limited to) reactivity on leash, lack of confidence, and difficulty coping in over stimulating environments, The small class size allows for each dog to be kept below their personal threshold in order to allow them to improve at a pace that works for them. We will introduce offering alternative behaviours, reading our dogs, and find the coping skills that work best for each dog while building trusting relationships and learning how best to support and advocate for them. Socialization and play with other dogs can (depending on the dog) be a key part of enriching their lives. The goal of these groups is to bring together carefully curated members to allow for this need to be met in a safe and positive environment. These groups are by application (please fill out a registration form to begin the process), and only available to dogs who have completed training with Mapleton Bark. This is done to balance ages, play styles, personality, and ensure fun for all.
